Austria

Most chilled out country in Europe?  I think so, and I love it

A lot of people that I have talked to have said that Austria is average.  I have to disagree.  It is somewhat quiet but there is heaps to do and with a long history of being the cross roads in Europe, it is a fascinating place.  I have had the opportunity to visit this place numerous times.  Each time I have gone, I have done some of the same things and also some different things. Dont forget the Sound of Music was filmed here. This place still holds a place of my heart….

Innsbruck is a quiet little quaint town.  There is not much to do here except rest and relax and there is many excursions you can take anywhere.  The most famous tourist attraction is of course the golden roof house set near the city center (sorry for the pic quality as it was my first digital camera):

Salzburg is a city I have frequented many times.  Even though it is a quiet town, you can find many things to do.  There are bars to go to at night to just chill out in, but I have found nothing really major (which is great).  Instead I have spent my time here enjoying walking around the city as it is very clean and pedestrian friendly and just taking in the atmosphere.  The fun part about going here is a guy who owns a farm and makes schnapps has groups over to his house to feel and drink them silly. You pay 20 euros and it is all the drinks(beer, wine, schnapps) and food (ribs and carrots and potatoes) you can fit in your stomach.  Obviously this gets dangerous after a few hours….

Vienna!!!!  When in Vienna you must hit a classical concert.  As Austria is the classical music center of Europe (just my opinion), you can often find a classical concert and a dinner for a very reasonable price.  Besides walking around the town and just taking in the sights, you may want to stop by Schonbrunn Palace.  This in my opinion is more magnificent than the Palace of Versailles in Paris.  This was a palace that the Hapsburg Monarchs lived in and it is truly magnificent.

Another place to frequent (as I have been here three times) is The Schnapps Museum.  This place is owned by a family who makes some of the best liquor I have every tasted and very strong.  They are also very accommodating.  If you go here, get ready to get buzzed by the free shots!!!    Vienna, I will be back (sooner than later)!!!!
